Vykon - The Storey behind the company
Continuation of the Gerry Anassis - Air Age legacy, a top South African Drag racer from the 70’s when two stroke engines ruled the strip. Gerry founded Air Age Engineering PTY Ltd manufacturing performance exhaust systems in 1968. Air Age remained in operation for 54 years, Sadly, in September 2019 Gerry passed away. A full line up of industrial manufacturing from turning, mandrel bending, and inhouse casting that led to the building of a complete four-cylinder big bang two stroke engine.
Brad grew up working in the factory from the young age of 5. With a technical schooling background, he started operating the machinery in the Air Age exhaust factory from an early age. Gerry taught him the very basics of exhaust flow and handcrafted metal work to be able to build an exhaust, back in 1981.
Vykon has been born from this legacy in 2022. Brad designing his own exhaust silencer using the most modern design technology yet keeping the pure fundamentals of the Gerry Anassis old school basics.
A full range of Super Bike and Adventure Bike exhaust systems will be manufactured using 304 thin wall stainless steel. Vykon fitment options will extend from full SBK systems to OEM slip on systems with a direct bolt on link pipe. The Adventure bike market is an exciting segment with challenges that Vykon will be tackling.
Anassis Racing
Brad started racing in the dirt on the outskirts of Pretoria South Africa at a track called ‘Mayhem’ a US style ¼ mile oval dirt track, racing a RM80 Suzuki with no brakes and fierce rough competition was the order of the day and this gave Brad Anassis the base to start a successful racing career.
It was a natural progression for Brad to step into the family shoes and take up drag racing. Wining in the first year of competing at the young age of 16 his light weight and the Air Age stable of well set up bikes meant immediate podium positions.
Road racing was a natural progression for the dirt tracker come drag racer that was offered a ride in a factory Suzuki squad back in ‘89 on a Suzuki RGV250, he never looked back progressing from 600’s and Superbikes wining many events along the journey. In 2007 Brad was approached by Suzuki SA to manage their official factory road racing team which sparked off Brad’s love of the sport and thus creating the company Anassis Racing. A world class race workshop was built at the Air Age facility with state-of-the-art technology.
Anassis racing start race preparing bikes for both 600 and 1000 Superbike categories, in their first year of national competition the team finished 3rd in the SA championship. Over the next 10 years the team grew from strength to strength, wrapping up over 13 SA National Championships in both Road and Drag Racing as a rider team owner manager.
Brad received “South African National Colours” for Drag Racing, setting history becoming the first drag racers to break the seven second barrier on a street bike and currently holds the fastest speed for a ¼ mile drag bike ever in Africa and the fastest non wheelie bar drag bike record to this day. Brad continued to follow his passion for speed driven by business in doing so developed the Vykon brand.
