Protection FAQs +
What motorcycle protection products does Sportsbike sell? +

Sportsbike offers a wide range of motorcycle protection products including frame sliders, axle sliders, engine covers, radiator guards, fork protectors, lever guards, handguards and related protective components.

Use the Bike Finder above and the Shop by Type options to narrow the range to protection products suitable for your motorcycle.

How do I know which protection parts fit my motorcycle? +

Use the Sportsbike Bike Finder and the fitment information on the individual product page to confirm compatibility with your motorcycle make, model and year.

Protection products can be highly model-specific because mounting points, axle design, engine cases, radiator shape, fork dimensions and bodywork can vary between motorcycle versions and model years.

If you are unsure, email Sportsbike or call +61 466 869 364 with your motorcycle make, exact model, model year, the product you are considering and a brief explanation of what you need help with.

What is the difference between frame sliders and axle sliders? +

Frame sliders are mounted to the motorcycle's frame, engine mounting points or another manufacturer-specified structural location and are designed to provide an additional contact point if the motorcycle falls or slides.

Axle sliders are fitted around the front or rear axle area and are intended to help protect components around the wheel, fork or swingarm ends.

They protect different areas of the motorcycle and can often be used together where suitable products are available for the application.

Will frame sliders prevent damage if my motorcycle is dropped? +

No protection product can guarantee that a motorcycle will not be damaged in a fall, slide or impact.

Frame sliders are designed to provide an additional point of contact and may help reduce contact between certain motorcycle components and the ground. The result depends on the motorcycle, slider design, speed, direction of impact, surface and circumstances of the incident.

Protection products should therefore be viewed as a way of helping reduce potential damage rather than guaranteeing that damage will be prevented.

What do motorcycle engine covers protect? +

Aftermarket engine protection covers are designed to provide an additional protective layer over vulnerable engine cases and covers.

Depending on the motorcycle, this can include the clutch cover, alternator or generator cover and other exposed engine cases.

Their purpose is to help reduce direct abrasion or impact damage to the original engine casing during a fall or slide. They do not guarantee that the engine or casing cannot be damaged.

What does a radiator guard do? +

A radiator guard is positioned in front of the radiator to provide additional protection from stones, road debris and other objects that could strike the radiator while riding.

Motorcycle radiators use thin cooling fins and fluid passages that can be vulnerable to impact damage. A damaged radiator can lead to coolant loss or reduced cooling performance.

A properly designed radiator guard allows cooling air to continue passing through the radiator while adding a protective barrier in front of it.

Will a radiator guard reduce engine cooling? +

A radiator guard designed specifically for the motorcycle should provide protection while maintaining adequate airflow through the radiator.

It is important to use a product intended for the correct motorcycle application and to keep both the guard and radiator clean and free from excessive dirt, insects or debris that could restrict airflow.

If the motorcycle shows abnormal operating temperature after installation, the cooling system and guard installation should be inspected rather than assuming the condition is normal.

What do fork protectors do? +

Fork protection products are designed to help protect vulnerable areas around the lower fork legs, fork bottoms and front axle area from contact or abrasion during a fall or slide.

The exact area protected depends on the product design and motorcycle. Fork protectors do not guarantee that the forks, wheel or suspension components cannot be damaged in an impact.

What is a motorcycle lever guard? +

A lever guard is positioned around or in front of a brake or clutch lever and is designed to help reduce the chance of accidental lever contact.

Brake lever guards are commonly used in racing and performance riding because unintended front-brake application caused by contact with another motorcycle or object can have serious consequences.

Lever guards are separate from the brake or clutch lever itself and compatibility with the handlebar, bar end and other controls must be checked.

What is the difference between a lever guard and a handguard? +

A lever guard is primarily designed to protect a brake or clutch lever from accidental contact.

A handguard generally provides a larger protective area around the rider's hand and controls and may help shield them from wind, debris or contact depending on the design.

The two products have different purposes and mounting requirements and should not be assumed to be interchangeable.

Can I combine different protection products on the same motorcycle? +

Often, yes. A motorcycle may use frame sliders, axle sliders, radiator guards, engine covers and other protection products at the same time.

However, compatibility between products still needs to be checked. Different products can sometimes use the same mounting point, fastener or available space.

If you plan to combine multiple protection products and are unsure about compatibility, email Sportsbike or call +61 466 869 364 before ordering.

Can protection parts affect other accessories fitted to my motorcycle? +

They can. Crash protection and other accessories may compete for the same mounting points or physical space around the motorcycle.

This can occur with products such as fairing kits, engine guards, exhaust systems, paddock-stand hardware, luggage systems, aftermarket bodywork and other accessories.

Fitment information for one product does not automatically confirm that it will be compatible with every other aftermarket accessory already fitted to the motorcycle.

Who should install motorcycle protection products? +

Sportsbike recommends professional installation of motorcycle protection products by a suitably qualified motorcycle mechanic where appropriate for the component being fitted.

Some protection components use engine mounts, axles, suspension mounting points or other important fasteners. Correct installation can require specified torque settings, spacers, mounting sequences, clearances and manufacturer-specific procedures.

Product descriptions, fitment information and installation documents supplied by Sportsbike identify products and applications. They are not a representation that a customer is qualified, authorised or legally permitted to carry out installation work.

Incorrect installation can damage mounting points, affect other motorcycle components or prevent the protection product from operating as intended.
