What motorcycle electronic products does Sportsbike sell? +

Sportsbike offers a range of motorcycle electronic and electrical products, including quickshifters, indicators, lighting components, electronic controls, sensors, wiring accessories and other model-specific electronic components.

How do I know if an electronic part is compatible with my motorcycle? +

Use the Sportsbike Bike Finder and the fitment information on the individual product page to confirm compatibility with your motorcycle make, model and year.

Electronic compatibility can also depend on ECU type, wiring connectors, CAN bus systems, electronic throttle, ignition configuration, existing accessories and the motorcycle's original electrical system.

What does “plug-and-play” mean for a quickshifter or electronic part? +

Plug-and-play generally means the product has been designed to connect to the motorcycle using compatible connectors or a dedicated wiring harness without requiring the original wiring loom to be cut or substantially modified.

It does not necessarily mean that installation requires no setup. Depending on the product, installation may still require mounting, adjustment, configuration, calibration or testing before the motorcycle is returned to service.

Always follow the installation and setup requirements for the exact motorcycle and electronic product.

If an electronic part is not plug-and-play, what does installation involve? +

Installation requirements vary considerably between products.

A non-plug-and-play installation may require wiring connections, terminals, relays, resistors, additional harnesses, configuration, sensor positioning, ECU connections or integration with the motorcycle's existing electrical system.

Modern motorcycles can use CAN bus networks, electronic throttle, immobilisers, ABS, traction control and other interconnected systems. Incorrect wiring or installation can therefore affect systems beyond the component being installed.

Sportsbike recommends that non-plug-and-play electrical and electronic installations are carried out by a suitably qualified motorcycle technician or automotive electrician.

Will a quickshifter work with my stock ECU, or do I need a remap? +

It depends on the motorcycle and the quickshifter system.

Some aftermarket quickshifters are designed to operate with the standard ECU and use their own sensor, control module or model-specific connection. Other systems rely on functions already supported by the motorcycle's ECU or require ECU configuration, activation or additional electronic equipment.

A full ECU remap is therefore not automatically required simply because a quickshifter is being fitted, but the requirements for the exact system must be checked before installation.

Always follow the quickshifter manufacturer's compatibility and setup information for the exact motorcycle.

What is the benefit of fitting a quickshifter? +

A quickshifter can allow gear changes without manually using the clutch or closing the throttle during supported shifts.

During an upshift, the system briefly interrupts or modifies engine power so the transmission can unload and the next gear can engage.

Depending on the system, this can provide faster and smoother gear changes and reduce interruption to acceleration, particularly during performance or track riding.

Some systems also provide auto-blip or downshift assistance, but this feature is motorcycle and product specific and should not be assumed to be included with every quickshifter.

Do aftermarket indicators need a resistor or load equaliser? +

Sometimes. It depends on the motorcycle's original indicator system and the electrical characteristics of the replacement indicators.

LED indicators typically draw less electrical current than traditional incandescent indicators. On some motorcycles this can cause the indicators to flash too quickly, trigger a warning or be interpreted by the motorcycle as a failed bulb.

Depending on the motorcycle, this may be corrected using suitable resistors, a load equaliser, a compatible indicator relay, an electronic adapter or another manufacturer-approved solution.

Do not assume that every LED indicator requires a resistor. Check the requirements for the exact motorcycle and indicator combination.

Is fitting aftermarket electronics likely to cause a fault code or dash warning? +

It can. Modern motorcycles monitor many electrical circuits and communicate between control units electronically.

Changing indicators, lights, sensors, switches, throttle components or other electronic equipment can sometimes cause a fault code, dash warning or abnormal operation if the replacement component does not provide the electrical signal or load expected by the motorcycle.

Model-specific plug-and-play products are generally designed to minimise these issues, but compatibility and correct installation must still be confirmed.

If a warning or fault appears after installation, the motorcycle should be correctly diagnosed rather than assuming the warning can simply be ignored.

Can aftermarket electronics interfere with ABS, traction control or other motorcycle systems? +

Potentially. Modern motorcycles can have interconnected systems including the ECU, ABS, traction control, wheel-speed sensors, electronic throttle, ride modes, quickshifters, immobilisers and instrument displays.

Incorrect wiring, incompatible sensors, poor electrical connections or inappropriate modifications can affect communication or operation within these systems.

Electronic components should therefore be used only in applications for which compatibility has been confirmed and installed according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Will installing aftermarket electronics affect my motorcycle warranty? +

Fitting an aftermarket component does not by itself determine all of your warranty rights.

However, damage or faults caused by incorrect installation, incompatible electrical components, wiring modifications or the aftermarket product itself may not be covered by a manufacturer's warranty for the affected motorcycle components.

Manufacturer warranty conditions operate separately from any consumer guarantees or remedies that may apply under Australian Consumer Law.

Keep installation records and documentation for aftermarket electronic components, particularly where professional installation has been carried out.

Can aftermarket electronics affect roadworthy or compliance requirements? +

They can. Lighting, indicators and some other electrical modifications may be subject to vehicle standards relating to operation, colour, visibility, positioning, spacing, flash rate or other requirements.

Requirements vary depending on the component and between Australian states and territories. Products intended specifically for racing or closed-course use may not be suitable for public-road use.

Sportsbike cannot certify that a particular electronic modification will satisfy roadworthy, registration or compliance requirements.

Where compliance is important, check the applicable requirements with the relevant road authority, a suitably licensed vehicle examiner or another appropriately qualified professional before modifying the motorcycle.

Who should install motorcycle electronics? +

Sportsbike recommends that motorcycle electrical and electronic components are installed and checked by a suitably qualified motorcycle technician or automotive electrician where appropriate for the work being performed.

Installation can involve wiring, connectors, circuit protection, sensors, ECU interfaces, CAN bus systems, configuration, calibration and verification that the motorcycle's safety and control systems continue to operate correctly.
