Mirrors FAQs +
What motorcycle mirrors does Sportsbike sell? +

Sportsbike offers a range of motorcycle mirrors including standard-position mirrors, bar-end mirrors, mirror adaptors, mounting hardware and related mirror accessories.

Use the Bike Finder above and the Shop by Type options to narrow the range to mirrors and adaptors suitable for your motorcycle.

How do I know which mirrors fit my motorcycle? +

Use the Sportsbike Bike Finder and the fitment information on the individual product page to confirm compatibility with your motorcycle make, model and year.

Mirror fitment can depend on mounting position, thread size and direction, original mirror mounts, handlebar design, bar-end arrangement and whether a separate adaptor is required.

If you are unsure, email Sportsbike or call +61 466 869 364 with your motorcycle make, exact model, model year, the mirror you are considering and a brief explanation of what you need help with.

What is the difference between standard mirrors and bar-end mirrors? +

Standard-position mirrors mount in the original or manufacturer-specified mirror location, commonly on the fairing, handlebar controls or mirror perch.

Bar-end mirrors mount at the ends of the handlebars. They can change the appearance of the motorcycle and may provide a different viewing position compared with the original mirrors.

Bar-end mirrors are not automatically compatible with every handlebar and may require model-specific adaptors or mounting hardware.

Do I need mirror adaptors? +

It depends on the motorcycle and the mirror being fitted.

An adaptor may be required where the aftermarket mirror uses a different thread, mounting pattern, bar-end arrangement or attachment method from the original motorcycle.

Some mirrors are supplied with the necessary mounting components, while others require a separate motorcycle-specific adaptor. Always check the individual product listing before ordering.

Why do motorcycle mirror thread sizes and thread directions matter? +

Motorcycle mirrors can use different thread diameters, thread pitches and thread directions.

Some motorcycles use a conventional right-hand thread on both sides, while others may use a reverse or left-hand thread on one mounting point. A mirror with the wrong thread should not be forced into the original mount.

Where required, use the correct adaptor designed for the motorcycle and mirror combination.

Will bar-end mirrors work with my original bar-end weights? +

Not necessarily. Some bar-end mirrors replace the original bar-end weight, while others are designed to work with a dedicated adaptor or mounting system.

The handlebar's internal thread, expansion fitting, original weight, handguard, lever guard and other bar-end accessories can all affect compatibility.

Do not assume that a universal bar-end mirror will fit the original bar-end hardware without modification or an adaptor.

Can changing bar-end mirrors or weights affect handlebar vibration? +

It can. Original bar-end weights are often designed to help manage vibration through the handlebars.

Replacing them with a different weight, mirror or mounting system can change the mass at the end of the handlebar and may alter the vibration felt by the rider.

The effect varies between motorcycles, handlebars and mirror systems.

Why does my motorcycle mirror vibrate or blur while riding? +

Some mirror vibration is caused by normal engine and motorcycle vibration, but excessive movement can also be caused by loose mounting hardware, unsuitable adaptors, incorrect installation or a mirror system that is not well matched to the motorcycle.

Mounting hardware should be correctly tightened and the mirror should remain secure throughout the motorcycle's normal operating range.

If vibration suddenly increases or the mirror will not remain securely positioned, the mounting system should be inspected before further use.

Are universal motorcycle mirrors guaranteed to fit every bike? +

No. Universal means the mirror is not designed exclusively for one motorcycle model. It does not mean that it is guaranteed to fit every motorcycle.

Mounting dimensions, thread size, handlebar design, available clearance, adaptors and the original mirror or bar-end arrangement must still be checked.

Are aftermarket motorcycle mirrors road legal in Australia? +

Not every aftermarket mirror is necessarily suitable for public-road use. Requirements can apply to mirror number, location, size, field of view, visibility and mounting.

Requirements may also vary depending on the motorcycle and between Australian states and territories.

A mirror being suitable for fitment does not automatically mean it will satisfy every roadworthy, registration or compliance requirement.

If road-use compliance is important, check the applicable requirements with your relevant road authority or a suitably licensed vehicle examiner.

Can changing mirrors affect a roadworthy or compliance inspection? +

It can. A motorcycle may be required to have a particular number of mirrors and adequate rearward visibility for road use.

Removing mirrors, fitting very small mirrors, positioning them where the view is restricted or using an unsuitable mounting arrangement may affect whether the motorcycle satisfies applicable requirements.

Sportsbike cannot certify that a particular mirror modification will pass a roadworthy or compliance inspection.

Who should install motorcycle mirrors and mirror adaptors? +

Sportsbike recommends professional installation where the mirror, adaptor or bar-end system affects controls, bar-end weights, handguards, lever guards or other motorcycle components.

Mirrors and mounting hardware must be securely installed, correctly positioned and provide adequate clearance throughout the full steering range.

Bar-end installations must not interfere with throttle operation, steering movement, brake or clutch controls or other safety-critical components.
